ROCK SPOT CLIMBING is currently looking to hire a COMPETITIVE TEAM COACH

and ROUTE SETTER for our youth climbing teams in Rhode Island!

Job Description:

Our climbing team has many strong and talented climbers who compete year round at a national level as well as many members who are new to competitive climbing. The Team Coach at Rock Spot Climbing will run weekly practice at our facilities as well as travel and coach at all USA Climbing competitions. All activities shall be conducted under the direction of the Youth Programs Director and Programs Managers.

Responsibilities will include:
Maintaining a safe, positive and productive learning atmosphere
Interacting and communicating professionally with both parents and students
Promoting Youth Program classes and events
Creating and documenting training programs and lesson plans
Explaining and demonstrating detailed technique
Providing appropriate beta to all abilities
Setting for general gym use as well as for the team
Setting routes at both Rhode Island facilities
Interacting professionally with both parents and students
Becoming certified as a USAC coach
Coaching both in the gym and at USAC competitions
Traveling to competitions and team events
Traveling to multiple Rock Spot locations
Working nights and weekends
Attending staff meetings and trainings

Outgoing, friendly personality
Youth coaching experience
Experience creating/implementing lesson plans
Strong communication skills
Experience working with youth of all ages
Ability to teach advanced climbing technique
Strong rock climbing experience, both indoors and outdoors
Ability to take initiative as well as work as part of a growing team
Ability to engage an audience
Ability to enforce rules and regulations
Detail oriented and organized
Punctual and reliable
Patient

Schedule:
The team coach will be required to work evenings and weekends, coaching at practices as well as special events and competitions.
The competitive year will require two days in PDL and two in LIN each week.
Schedules are subject to change based on class enrolments and requirements.

Portable Rock Wall Staff- Roger Williams Park Zoo and Mobile Wall

ROCK SPOT CLIMBING is currently looking to hire PORTABLE ROCK WALL STAFF for our portable rock walls with locations at Roger Williams Park Zoo and our mobile rock wall!!

Job Description

The rock wall staff will travel to various locations with our portable rock wall. They will belay for climbers of all ages and and monitor for safety at the location under the supervision of a rock wall driver or lead rock wall staff.

Desired Skills/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Previous experience working with Rock Walls, indoor climbing, challenge course, or equivalent.
Belay experience certified through Rock Spot Climbing
Previous experience working with groups, especially children
Experience in customer service
Ability to work long periods of time in various weather conditions
Punctual, flexible, and the ability to work under pressure
Outgoing, friendly personality

Responsibilities will include:
Assist in the set-up & take-down of the Portable Rock Wall
Assist the Rock Wall Driver in maneuvering the Portable Rock Wall
Belaying participants of all ages
Extensive customer/participant interaction
Harnessing participants
Some data entry as required
Ability to work at least 1 regularly scheduled weekend day

Compensation:
Pay determined by experience:
$9 per hour starting pay.

Hours to be determined, approximately 14-35/hrs. a week.

Seasonal position: Rock Wall at the Zoo runs weekends through May, and 7 days a week Memorial Day (5/26/14) through Labor Day (9/1/14), 10am to 5pm. Other hours may be available based on need. The Mobile Wall operates mostly on weekends (with occasional weekdays and evenings) as events are scheduled.
